Fabrics Made in Italy Illustrate New Trend

During the '15th Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics 2009', held in Shanghai New International Expo Centre from October 20th to 24th, 2009, Italian Trade Commission - I.C.E. organized the Italian Pavilion to introduce Chinese audience the high-quality features and unique charm of fabrics made in Italy.

The Italian Pavilion, composing of 48 best Italian fabric manufacturers, including BOTTO GIUSEPPE E FIGLI S.p.A., CANCLINI TESSILE S.p.A., LANIFICIO TESSILSTRONA S.r.l., LANIFICIO ERMENEGILDO ZEGNA & FIGLI S.p.A., MARZOTTO S.p.A., PONTOGLIO S.p.A., SUCCESSORI REDA S.p.A., TESEO S.p.A., and so on, aims at providing a wide range of new products and solutions for the increasing needs of Chinese companies and consumers.

Furthermore, a Trend Area and a Seminar titled 'New Constructions' presented a viewing of the most creative fabrics produced by the exhibiting Italian companies for the A/W 2010-2011 collection.

In the trend area of Italian Pavilion this year, the textile designer Ms. Marialuisa Ronchi told stories of fabrics, through the gestures, objects, traditions and suggestions of sartorial art, threads, weavings and colors chosen. The set is composed of twelve dressmakers' patterns divided equally by themselves among men's wear, women's wear and shirts that are simply hung with the classic string, representing the main types of textiles produced by Italian exhibitors.

As a strategic consultant for various Italian and foreign companies, Ms. Marialuisa Ronchi also foretold the fashion trend for the A/W 10-11 at the seminar 'New Constructions'. The key words are visualized in trends folders including collectors' edition dressmaking, industrial tailoring, customized couture, virtual dressmaking and theatrical dressmaking. 'Made in Italy' fabrics interpret trends with quality-rich products and innovative ideas.

According to the China Customs, the total value of China imports of textile (fabric, yarn, fiber) and garment in 2008 reached US$ 24.9 billion (US$ 13.9 billion from Jan to Aug in 2009). It has grown at about 8% annually since 2002 to reach US$ 25.4 billion in 2007, but decreased by 1.7% in 2008 due to economic crisis. According to the latest data, Italy's export to China in textile and garment reached US$ 472,5 million from Jan to Aug in 2009 (ranked 9th among all countries), accounting for 3.4% of total imports. Famous for its top-rated quality universally, the fabrics Made in Italy are becoming more and more popular in the Chinese market. Italy is China's main import country for silk fabrics. From Jan to Aug 2009, according to the statistics of China Customs, China imported only US$ 4.2 million worth of silk fabrics from Italy, ranking the 5th place, and accounting for 7% of total silk fabrics imports.

These high value-added segments mainly meet the demand of high-end' market in China, Italian textile industry has been endeavored to research and development and applications of innovative technology. Italian work force posses the acknowledged creativity,  originality and the pursuit of supreme quality at heart. All these contribute to the unique style of Italian fabrics, making it another name of top-graded fabrics all over the world.
