As the 2009 Yarn Expo Spring edition came to an end on 1 April, the organisers’ had something to smile about. “We are positively happy with this year’s visitor attendance. We’ve had a 27 percent increase from 2008, which is almost unheard of in this uncertain economy,” said Ms Wendy Wen, Trade Fair Director for Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. Exhibitors were equally impressed as the three-day event remained crowded as ever for the duration of the show.

Over 4,500 visitors from 42 countries and regions flocked to the China World Trade Centre from 30 March — April 1 2009, to source a wide range of yarns and fibres from nearly 100 suppliers.

Return Taiwanese exhibitor, Mr Nick Chiu, Exporting Sales Manager for Formosa Nylon, praised the specialised trade event. “I am very happy. I’ve had some serious discussions with some Chinese buyers who are interested in our nylon yarns. In fact, business has been so good that I’m ready to leave and it’s only the first day!”

Senior Manager, Mr Nausherwan Butt for Pakistani based eco yarn manufacturer, Gul Ahmed Textile Mills Limited echoed Mr Chiu’s response. ““We are more than satisfied with our participation at the spring fair. We’ve had had so many enquiries that I had to photocopy some of my business cards.” Mr Butt also spoke of plans to double their booth at the autumn edition to take advantage of blooming business. “This show has given us the opportunity to meet with some serious customers. It’s important for us to exhibit here.”

In addition to sourcing products that were divided into three group zones including High-End Fibres & Yarns, Colour Dyed Yarns, New Blended Fibres & Yarns, visitors witnessed several new product presentations offered on the fair.

Seeker, a domestic based producer of man-made fibres and yarn-dyed yarns with polyester, viscose and cotton, introduced their new fibres that help reduce discharge and pollution from dying during the production process. Ms Feng Shujun, Director for the manufacturer commented on the steady flow of interest from buyers on their patented technology. “We have received orders from locals and have even had many enquiries from international visitors on our special eco products. We are so impressed by the response of the fair that we will definitely come back next year.”

Visitors on the fair were also delighted to see an impressive range of upstream yarn and fibres on the fair. “I am glad to see that this fair offers innovative and high quality products. We will certainly return to source again next year,” said Mr Fung Deli, General Manager for Lang Fang Li Ye Cheng Fu Shi, China.

Yarn Expo is organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the Sub-Council of Textile Industry — CCPIT, China Cotton Textile Association, China Wool Textile Association, China Chemical Fibers Association, China Bast & Leaf Fiber Textiles Association and China Textile Information Centre.

The 2009 autumn edition willbe held in tandem with the Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles from 25 — 27 August 2009 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
