China Famous City of Casual Wear - Yueqing City of Zhejiang Province

Yueqing City is located in the southeast coastal area of Zhejiang Province, covering 1,174 sq. kilometers and having the population of 1.16 million. The city has the favorable natural resources as Yandang Mountain, Qili Harbor and Yueqing Bay. Since the implementation of opening up and reforms, the city has achieved the rapidest economic growth in the coastal belt under the driving force of “Wenzhou Economic Mode” that was originated in this local and brought the city the good fame. In year 2002, the city realized the total RMB 41.05 billion’s industrial output and RMB1.83 billion's revenue, ranking the 15th among all counties in terms of economic competitiveness.
Yueqing City is the birthplace for Wenzhou Style Garments and the largest production base for garment in the South Zhejiang Province. Garment industry is the mainstay to the city’s economy. At present, 425 garment manufacturers are located in the city, mostly private or jointly invested. Of the all, 15 companies have achieved the sales turnover exceeding RMB100 million. The main products include causal wear, casual suits and business suits etc, of which over 10 varieties have been honored the national high quality products. In 2002, the output of casual wear and business suits reached 32 million pieces, yielding RMB11.08 billion’s sales turnover, 27% of the town's total of all industries. More than 60,000 employees have been involved in the production of garments and additional 10,000 engaged in the garment sales. The industry is equipped with 50,000 sets of various production facilities, of which, 16,000 sets are imported and 28% are of the state of arts. Most companies pay the much attention to the products development and brand building, and accordingly set up the R&D centers to strength the products development efforts. Some companies have invited professional designers from Italy, France and Hong Kong for fashion design and development and also the famous stars to be the brand image persons. Besides, over 20 enterprises have moved to the Garment Industrial Park that covers an area of 3,750. The Garment Industrial and Trading Town has also been put into operation, covering the floor space of over 400,000 sq. meters. The City Garment Association has been set up to coordinate, serve, protect and discipline the development of the garment industry. Yueqing City is striving to be an internationally competitive production, sales and R&D center for garments.
